Francois de Menil

Francois de Menil sa narodil v roku 1945. Jeho rodičia boli hlboko oddaní umeniu a umelcom vôbec a mesto Houston vystavili „novému“ umeniu a architektúre v skorých 50. rokoch 20. storočia. Ako mladý človek, vystavený tomuto prostrediu, Francois de Menil začal svoju kariéru ako dokumentarista. Po režírovaní významných filmov o umelcoch sa rozhodol vrátiť do školy a pokračovať v architektúre a dizajne.

Francois de Menil získal bakalársky titul architekta od Cooper Union na Irwin S Chanin School of Architecture v roku 1987. Pracoval v ateliéroch Richard Meier & Partners a Kohn Pedersen Fox. Neskôr si v roku 1991 založil svoj vlastný ateliér FdM:Arch. Je autorom mnohých občianskych i bytových budov, no zaoberá sa aj dizajnom.

Francois de Menil je tiež nositeľom mnohých ocenení za architektúru a dizajn (ako napr. Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum a rôzne menšie obchody patriace Bottega Veneta), ktoré sú uverejňované v mnohých publikáciách. Podieľal sa i na mnohých výstavách a až do teraz naďalej prednáša na Temple University – School of Architecture vo Philadelphii. Menil je taktiež riaditeľom architektonickej kancelárie FdM:Arch v New Yorku v Spojených štátoch. Vyvíja tu premyslenú a jedinečnú modernú architektúru prostredníctvom analýz a dialógov s klientmi. Takýto proces preskúma problematiku v celku. Architekt sa zaujíma o klienta ako o človeka, ktorý žije svoj život, pracuje a ako prežíva pocity z určitého miesta a nie ako o predmet svojho zárobku. Riešenia poskytujú inovatívne interpretácie, ktoré sú získané od majiteľa, od danej parcely a podobne.

Francois de Menil bol zvolený do College of Folows of the American Institute of Architects v roku 2001. Je správcom Cooper Union for the Advencement of Science and Arts a taktiež rozhodoval pri množstve architektonických posudkov. Menil má licencie v štátoch New York, Texas a v Severnej Karolíne a tiež má certifikát NCARB. Je členom New Yorskej a Texaskej spoločnosti architektov.
