Self portrait

Meybe is a pseudonymous England-based street artist and the former of the art group Dozen.

Following the example of an equally famous but older colleague from Bristol, neither he, nor his art group, publish their photographs.

According to available information, he was born in London, where he still works.

The founder of the artistic style is simplcism, which is characterized by simplicity of shape and artistic style, but the paintings themselves have a significant, highly memorable potential for the viewer. In one of the few published interviews that Meybe provided via e-mail, he writes: "In this complicated world, everyone spends a billion pieces of information on you every second. It's similar in the art world. You look at a picture and you don't even remember it in the evening. My works are about literally always in front of your eyes, they are simple, but they are based on the basic principle that we all learned to draw at school, and they told us that it was too easy, but why can't it finally be in something simple in life when you're an adult? Does everything have to be just complicated in adulthood? I don't think so."

    ZERO1 COLLECTION
  • The first collection called ZERO1 is based on the simplicity of nature, where everyone can find pictures of themselves. Meybe uses simple shapes, which are then characteristic of his entire work. However, the easier the painting, the more detail we can find in it. The child's focused view already appears in this collection, which forces the viewer to watch the image for several hours, and its informative value is multiplied. The first collection contains 10 paintings, each of which is an exceptional work.In 2015, criticism of simplicity and too childish stylization was still viewed with distrust. Over time, however, she even came up with a name for his work. Based on this first collection, Meybe is described as the main character of a new artistic style called SIMPLICISM.

ZERO2 COLLECTION

  • In 2017, Meybe releases its Collection ZERO2. In it, it leaves the shapes of plants and focuses its attention on animals. Here, too, his memories form the basis of all his work. The 12 paintings capture the animal kingdom again in a simple style for which it is famous. The animals are depicted from the point of view of the memories of "my dog" or "how i draw dog ... and cat", but from each of them the viewer can think of his own childhood memories. His painting "happy turtle", the expression of which they compare to the expressive uncertainty of the Mona Lisa, is proof of perfect stylization from the child's point of view. In this work, the viewer suddenly receives a feeling of sadness and happiness at the same time.In this collection, Meybe begins to add short phrases to his paintings. He thus clearly gives the key to his work and what he thinks. In previous works, he left the interpretation to the viewer himself, while the phrases clearly follow his thinking. Meybe says about it: "... first I draw the picture I have in my head and then I can think of the name for it". I don't have to put the name somewhere above the painting, because everyone in the galleries wants you to have the painting named in some way. But I don't want to come up with an artificial name a few weeks after I painted the picture. So I incorporated the name directly into the image! "
